Barnesville Remembers: A Special Tribute To Veterans

May 15, 2014
The Rotary Club of Barnesville has planned a special tribute to recognize our Korean War Veterans on May 31st at the Lamar County Fine Arts Center. "Barnesville Remembers" begins at 11:00am and is open to the public.

USO Patriot Award recipient, Sunny Park of Atlanta is the guest speaker. Founder of General Building Maintenance (GBM), Park is a native of South Korea who witnessed the horrors of the Korean War firsthand as he watched his parents being killed by the North Koreans. He arrived penniless in the U.S. in 1974 and soon became a successful businessman and real estate investor and developer. Park, along with General Ray Davis were instrumental in constructing the National Korean War Memorial in Washington, D.C.

Each Korean War Veteran at the Barnesville Remembers event will receive a commemorative pin designed by Erin Cook, Communications Specialist at Southern Rivers Energy.

Some highlights include an extensive photo gallery and display of military vehicles along with the landing of a vintage military helicopter. Each Korean War Veteran in attendance will be presented with a commemorative lapel pin designed especially for this event. Though focusing on the Korean War in particular, all veterans and their families are invited to attend as the program honors all of our veterans and active service men and women.

The planning committee is still searching for Korean War Veterans in the surrounding counties who would like to participate by being recognized for their service to our country. If you are a Veteran of the Korean War or know someone who is, please contact Kent Kingsley at 770-358-2941 or at [email protected].

The public is encouraged to attend "Barnesville Remembers" and show support and appreciation for all our veterans at this special tribute. Visit barnesvillerotary.com for more information.
