The Lamar County Board of Commissioners proclaimed February as Black History Month at its regular meeting on Tuesday, February 10th in Barnesville. The move echoed a similar proclamation issued one day earlier by members of the Barnesville City Council. Another Accident At New Hope Road
There were no injuries in this Tuesday afternoon collision at New Hope Road and the four-lane, just north of the Lamar County line. The contributions of former city council member Annie Mae Harris were recognized Monday in a Resolution passed by the Barnesville City Council. She was also presented with a�plaque and certificate�by Mayor Pro Tem Lynn Wilson.

Harris was the city�s first female African-American to hold elective office and served the citizens of Ward 2 for a total of three terms. A change of residence prompted her retirement effective September 8, 2008.
The Lamar County Health Department has been awarded a 2009 Mini Grant to distribute child safety seats and educational information to eligible parents.� The program is a collaborative effort with the Governor�s Office of Highway Safety that strives to prevent fatalities on Georgia�s roads.
Code enforcement officers say a crackdown is underway on unregistered timber companies operating inside Lamar County. In addition to lost tax revenue, officials say the heavy equipment is also taking its toll on�local roads.

The Lamar County Board of Commissioners is expected to take up the issue of dissolving the beleaguered Agricultural Exposition Authority at its regular 7:00pm meeting on Tuesday, February 10th.
As we move further into the legislative session, the General Assembly builds momentum.� Just a few weeks ago we were being sworn in and receiving our committee assignments.� Then the committee process started and we began studying proposed legislation.� Now we are finally starting to see the fruits of that work.� This week we voted on several pieces of legislation, including one bill affecting the HOPE Scholarship and Grant program.� We also heard from the Georgia Supreme Court Chief Justice and learned of a newly proposed state-wide transportation plan.�
