No Charges In Pedestrian Deaths
Greg S. Williams December 10, 2014 In a special presentment Tuesday in
Lamar County, December term grand jurors returned no bills on four
possible charges against former Barnesville Police Officer Terry
Belvin.
On May 16th at approximately 1:02am, Belvin was traveling southbound on Veterans Parkway when his police cruiser struck and killed two pedestrians just south of the Grove Street crossing. Both pedestrians, identified as Quinton Byrd and Justin Sullivan, were pronounced dead at the scene. Belvin suffered minor injuries and was placed on administrative leave with pay. The accident was turned over to the Georgia State Patrol Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team for investigation. Belvin later resigned his position, effective October 31st in a one-sentence letter dated October 24th. The charges considered by grand jurors were two counts each of homicide by vehicle in the first degree, and homicide by vehicle in the second degree.
