One Dead, One Arrested In Accidental Shooting

Griffin Police say an 18 year old male died there Monday after suffering an accidental gunshot wound.

Officers responded to 617 W. Broad Street at approximately 7:17pm in reference to a call concerning shots fired. Upon their arrival they found a black male victim laying on the couch in the living room deceased from a single gunshot wound to the neck.

The victim has been identified as Gideon Phazion Mays, DOB 5/30/96 of Griffin. Investigators responded to the scene and determined that the incident was an accidental shooting.

�Prior to the 911 call another male who was in the residence with the victim was handling a weapon when it accidently discharged, striking the victim,� Lt. Michael Richardson told Barnesville Dispatch. �The shooter was identified as Terriez Stroud, DOB 4/6/91.�

�Shortly after the incident, Stroud made contact with Investigators and was cooperating with the investigation,� he continued. �Evidence at the scene was consistent with statements made by Stroud and at this time Stroud has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and reckless conduct.�

He is currently being held at the Spalding County Jail.
